In 1960, the Department of primary school Pedagogy was opened as a part of the faculty of history, which lasted until 1966. Department was headed by Ph. D., associate Professor A. Bektenov.                                                             

In the 1974-1975 academic year, the faculty of "Pedagogy and methods of primary education" was opened with V. I. Beloglazov as a Dean. This faculty had one Department "Pedagogy of primary education", headed by Ph. D., associate Professor E. Agmanov. Later, the heads of this Department were associate professors K.Syzdykov, O. Zh. Zhumashev, W. Zharkynbekov, E. I. Baidebekova.

Since 1991, the Department of " Pedagogy and methods of primary education" has been headed by B. Iskakov and also Prof. O. A. Ayashev worked there. The Department of " Methods of teaching subjects in natural science in primary classes" was headed by associate Professor E. I. Baidybekova, the Department of "Methods of teaching philological subjects in primary classes" was headed by associate Professor D. A. Moldalieva.

In 1992-1993, the Department was created as part of the faculty of "Pedagogy and methods of primary education", which was headed by Prof. O. A. Ayashev. In those years, the Department collaborated with such prominent teachers as T. Bargachev, U. K Tazhibaeva, M. O. Olzhabaev, Sh. N. Ergeshbaev, W. J. Zharkynbekov, S. A. Kalambaev, E. A. Amanov, M. K. Nugmanova, B. N. Mukhamedgalieva, A. N. Nurimov, B. K. Iskakov, Moldabekov,   S.Tokbergenova, R. W. Balabaeva, K. A. Annaberdiev, Zhanadilova K. H., K. D. Dilimbetova, N.P.Shishilov, A. N. Abdrakhmanova, P. Mominul, D. A. Moldaliev, K.Suenbaev, M. Abishev, A. A. Zholdasova, E. K. Elchibekova, Kenzheeva.

Graduates of the specialty "Pedagogy and methods of primary education" currently work in such positions as the Head of the city Department of education – Zh.A.Tazhiyeva, Vice-principle for educational work of the Syrdarya University -Ph. D. N. S. Moldabekova, head of the "Preschool education and defectology" Department at SKSPI - Ph. D. Zh. A. Massaliyeva, head of the "Methods of primary education" Department at SKSPI - Ph. D. G. B. Tutaeva, head of the  "Pedagogy and psychology" Department at SKSPI – candidate of pedagogic Sciences, associate Professor S. Z. Arzymbetova.

In the 2012-2013 academic year, the faculty of Pedagogy and Psychology was opened (Dean  Zh. Arzymbetova). The Department of "Methods of primary education", which is part of the faculty, trains bachelors in the specialty" Preschool education and upbringing","Pedagogy and methods of primary education".

In 2014-2015, under the head of the Department, Ph. D., associate Professor E. B. Orazbayeva, the scientific level, all areas of study, science, methodology, practice, and educational work significantly increased. Further development of the Department is associated with the name of A. B. Ibashova, who headed the Department in 2015-2017 Academic year.

The objects of professional activity of the bachelor of education in the specialty 5B010200-Pedagogy and methods of primary education are educational institutions:

- primary level of secondary school,

- pedagogical colleges, institutes of professional development and retraining of teachers, departments of education.

The Department maintains a close relationship with employers in training competitive specialists of the new time. Meeting the requirements of the state mandatory standard of education and in accordance with the requirements of employers, the percentage of elective subjects increased from 40% to 60%.

Since October 2017, the Department is headed by Ph. D. G. B. Tautaeva.

Since October 2021, the head of the department is Doctor PhD Senior Lecturer U.B. Akhataeva.

Since May 2022, PhD senior lecturer A.Zh.Esnazar has been appointed head of the department.
